Basketball teams finished strong

 

The boys basketball teams finished the season with two strong performances. The JV team lost a close game to EDN on the semi-finals (25 to 28) and beat the French School to clinch the third place for the season. The Varsity team had a great game also against EDN with a dramatic finish at the free throw line, losing by just one point. Then another excellent display of basketball and team work against the French School also falling short by just one point. Despite missing a few players on the last games the Eagles have proven to be a strong competitive team on this league and we are certainly looking forward to an even better season next year. Way to go Eagles!!! Next we'll have Christmas break and after that we'll switch gears for the soccer season. Great job to all players who represented BIS this season!

Two more wins last week...

Last week the basketball teams got two more wins on the Brasilia Sports League (BSL).

The Junior Varsity team beat the French School 25 to 14, and the Varsity team beat the French School 38 to 29. Way to go Eagles! 

Next the Varsity team will play EDN on the semi-finals of the League (BSL), and the JV team plays EAB on their last regular season game. Play-offs are next! 

Eagles win another one

BIS beats French Scholl 25 to 14. Tough game, specially on the first half. On the second half the Eagles found their rhythm and were able to finish on top. Great job boys!

No game on Monday

Sorry for the delayed post, but there will be no basketball game on Monday. I've done all I can to schedule this game, now we are waiting for the other coaches to respond.

JV Team Wins Basketball Tournament!!

Congratulations to the Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Team for winning the 2013 Nations Cup. These guys played hard every game and they deserved to win the Gold Medal. Congratulations Goro, Tomohiro, Farhan, Lucca, Linus, Salvador, Iyaloo, Daniel, Omair and Coach Batista. You guys are CHAMPIONS!!!

BIS Champions of the Nations Cup 2013

Today the BIS Eagles won their first Basketball Championship! With a win yesterday and three more wins today, the Eagles beat every team in the tournament, finishing in 1st place (undefeated in the tournament)!!

Congratulations Goro, Tomohiro, Farhan, Lucca, Linus, Salvador, Iyaloo, Daniel, Omair and Coach Batista. You guys are CHAMPIONS!!! Photos with medals and trophies coming ASAP. 

Another great win!

On the most dramatic game of the season so far, the Eagles were trailing the Bulls the whole game. Down by two points with 10 seconds left in the game, Goro 

Scores a perfect 3 point shot and the Eagles win 32 to 31!!!  Unbelievable finish. Great job boys!! 

 We still have two more games today. 

Eagles win first game of the tournament

The JV team is off to a great start in the tournament. BIS beat EDN 28 to 14 on a very exciting game tonight. Goro was named player of the game. We'll have 3 more games tomorrow at 1 pm, 4pm and 6 pm. Come cheer for the Eagles! Great job to all the boys on the team tonight. The boys basketball game on Friday was cancelled due to the weather. Now we will make up this game on Monday, 4pm at School of the Nations.

Junior High boys - Amazing game

The Junior High boys played the best basketball game so far this season.

With no subs we played against EAB who had 13 players on their team. At half time we were more than 10 points ahead of the Bulls. In the last 2 minutes of the game EAB hit a few three pointers which was just enough for them to score one more point than the Eagles. Final score was 33 – 34.  This was an excellent display of good basketball, team work and courage!

Tournament Summary

  

    The Eagles played two more tough games today to finish the tournament. After a slow start against Santa Teresinha the boys got it together and played a competitive second half but were unable to make up the difference from the first half. On the game against EAB even though our team was undersized we did a great job playing defense and holding the Bulls back. At half-time the score was practically tied, but the Eagles got into some foul trouble and the Bulls were able to pull out the win at the end. 

           

I'm very proud of how we played as a team, always being positive and supporting one another. This team showed great sportsmanship, heart and courage as they faced some of the best teams in Brasilia this weekend. Congratulations to all players for your success in this tournament.  Andrew (our top scorer), Goro (most steals), Letsie (best defensive player), Kwame (our main scorer from the left side - see video), Frizald (excellent drives to the hoop), Alex (excellent as center), Adnan (great in movement and assists), Wilko (great ball handling and passing around the perimeter - he also won every jump ball), Rowen (good job playing defense up top and down low). Way to go Eagles!

2 good games tonight

The Eagles are off to a good start in the tournament, with one win and one loss so far. BIS beat Mackenzie with a solid performance, and then played a very competitive game with Nations. It was an exciting finish with Andrew going  lights out in the last minute and Wilko hitting a shot right at the buzzer! I'm not sure if the refs counted the shot, but I think it was good. 

Two more games tomorrow... go Eagles!
